Behind the Scenes with Bray & Nat

We wanted to go behind the scenes with one of our preferred vendors this month to give our lovely clients a peek into what really goes into capturing the magic of your wedding day. At Lottie Weddings, we’re lucky to work with some of the most heart-forward creatives—and Bray & Nat are exactly that.

A husband-and-wife photo and video duo, they approach weddings not with a checklist, but with genuine curiosity and care. Their work isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence.

How did they get into weddings?

For Bray & Nat, their story started behind the lens—first capturing landscapes, and eventually, a friend’s wedding during the pandemic.

"We fell in love with the idea of being invited into such an intimate, meaningful day," they shared. “Every love story is different—and that’s what keeps it exciting.”

From Lottie: People in the wedding industry really love love. It’s about human connection and being invited into a deeply personal chapter of someone’s story. While weddings look glamorous on the surface, there’s so much behind-the-scenes work—emotionally and logistically—to make it magical. That’s why being part of someone’s day feels so special.

How would you describe your style?

Bray & Nat describe their style as documentary-led, but never one-size-fits-all. For photos, they guide couples gently, reading their energy in the moment. For video, it’s about prompts that match who you are—whether that means slow, intimate glances or a spontaneous game of tag.

“It’s all about creating space for connection,” they said.

From Lottie: That perfect blend of candid and guided. The best photographers know when to step back and when to step in. Bray & Nat strike that balance, which helps our clients feel at ease and seen.

Favourite Wedding Moments

When we asked them their favourite part of a wedding day, both had immediate answers.

“I love the first five minutes after walking down the aisle,” Nat shared. “The couple is always glowing, slightly stunned, and has this look like, ‘We did it.’”

Bray is all about the vows and the first look. “Those are the moments we relive over and over during the editing process. We get to fall in love with your love all over again.”

From Lottie: We couldn’t agree more. Those raw, emotional moments—the unfiltered joy, the relief, the intimacy—are what we live for as planners, too. It’s such a privilege to witness love like that up close.

Making Each Wedding Unique

So how do they make sure every wedding doesn’t start to feel the same?

“It starts with connection,” they told us. They always include an engagement session so they can get to know the couple’s vibe—how much posing help they need, what makes them feel confident, what lights them up.

“We also ask about values: are you focused on the party, the people, the aesthetic? We love hearing how couples met, how they love, and what they want their wedding to feel like. That’s how we make it personal.”

From Lottie: Especially in a place like Banff and the Rockies, where so many couples travel for a dream destination wedding, no two celebrations are ever the same. The scenery may be similar, but it’s the people who bring the magic. Everyone should really lean into that individuality.

Advice for Couples Choosing a Photo/Video Team

When we asked what advice they’d give couples trying to pick their photographer or videographer, their answer was clear:

“Make sure the vibe is right. Your photographer is with you all day, so feeling comfortable around them matters.”

They also suggest asking to see full galleries—not just highlight reels. “You want to know how they capture everything, not just the best five images.”

And for video? Always ask to see a full-length film. The 30-second TikTok may be fun, but the real story is in the longer version.”

Handling Challenges Like Weather & Delays

We all know that wedding days don’t always go as planned. So how do Bray & Nat stay cool under pressure?

“Adaptability is everything,” they said. “If things shift, we shift. We’ll help adjust the timeline, suggest alternatives, or even offer a re-do session if needed.”

“Luxury comes after humanity. Our job is to help you stay present and enjoy your day, no matter what.”

From Lottie: Yes, yes, yes. Flexibility and presence are two of the most underrated forms of luxury on a wedding day. Having vendors who can roll with the day—and still make it feel effortless—is a game-changer.

What They Wish Couples Knew

We asked them: what’s one thing you wish couples understood about your work?

“That we care. A lot.”

“People think we just show up with a camera and hit record. But especially with video, there’s so much happening behind the scenes—lighting, sound, multiple cameras. It’s an art and a science, and we pour so much of ourselves into it.”

From Lottie: This right here is why we’re so careful about who we recommend. Good vendors aren’t just skilled—they’re invested. They show up not just with gear, but with heart.

Do You Recommend Working with a Planner? (You know we had to ask.)

“Absolutely,” they said without hesitation. “A planner allows us to focus entirely on capturing your memories, instead of managing the schedule or tracking down vendors. Having that behind-the-scenes support makes everyone’s experience better—including yours.”

From Lottie: Having a planner is like having an insurance policy for your peace of mind. It allows creatives like Bray & Nat to do what they do best—while we quietly make sure the timeline is humming and your champagne is still cold.

Wrapping It All Up

We love working with vendors who understand that weddings aren’t just about pretty details—they’re about people. The emotional vows. The teary first look. The joy on the dance floor. Bray & Nat don’t just capture what your wedding looks like; they capture how it feels. And that’s why we adore them.

Choosing the right vendors is one of the biggest factors in creating a smooth, meaningful, and joyful wedding day. While we love all the people we work with, we want every couple to choose the team that feels right for them.

Because when you build your dream team? That’s when the magic really happens.
